Why Do You Need a Solution Blueprint?

Connor Square v3
By Connor O'Keefe

So, you’re on the cusp of an exciting new technology implementation and you need to make sure it goes well? Sounds like you better get a solution blueprint.

A solution blueprint, also referred to by some as a business blueprint, is essentially a step-by-step breakdown of what you need to do to ensure your technology strategy goes off without a hitch. It may seem like overkill, but an overwhelming 70% of all implementation projects fail without some guiding document to help team members navigate the (oftentimes taxing) process. By taking a deep dive into your organization’s people, data, processes, and existing technology ecosystem, your implementation success odds shoot through the roof.

Why Does a Solution Blueprint Matter?

A solution blueprint is more than just a document, it’s a strategic tool that can greatly impact the success of your implementation and ultimately, your digital transformation as a whole. Solution blueprints are important because they help businesses effectively implement new technologies or processes. A well-crafted solution blueprint will consider your organization’s specific needs and objectives. This ensures that the final product is a success!

Here are some of the most common reasons companies turn to us for a solution blueprint:

  • You are on the verge of embarking on a project that involves vendor selection, software implementation, business process redesign, data audit, or software customization. This endeavor requires careful consideration, meticulous planning, and thoughtful execution.
  • After experiencing a setback in implementation, you’re determined to embark on a fresh start and re-implement with renewed resolve.
  • Improving user adoption has been a challenge for you.
  • You want better metrics visibility.
  • You are in the process of transitioning to a new platform.
  • You have specific or complex platform integration needs.
  • You want to consolidate your business processes.

Do 70% of Implementations Really Fail? Why is That? How Can You Avoid These Pitfalls? Check it out here!

What Does a Blueprint Entail?

Our blueprinting process is an in-depth analysis of what your company needs to get out of the digital transformation, followed by a regimented outline of steps needed to achieve whatever goals you want to accomplish.

We start our solution blueprint process by conducting interviews with subject matter experts, both internal and external, to give us the most accurate view of the situation from the most experienced perspectives. We follow this by conducting audits of existing technologies; what software are you using, how are you using your current tools, are the systems in place conducive to your goals, etc. This review, combined with the expert perspectives, are critical in determining where the project goes.

Following the preliminary steps, a formal process map will be laid out to guide the way to current and future goals, which will inevitably vary from client to client. This will grow into a formal proof-of-concept that will be a much more fleshed out replica of how the project will play out.

We understand that change is difficult, especially changes in the workplace. That’s why our solution blueprint process comes with a focus on change management to help your people acclimate to the updated technology and processes.

That’s all well and good, but how long does the solution blueprint process take? We break it down in our Youtube video below!

Making a big change in your organization is intimidating; it represents a significant investment of both time and resources, and sadly, the odds aren’t in your favor, statistically speaking. Taking the time to stop, assess, and meticulously plan out your every move while considering your processes, technology and most importantly, your people, is the only way your project will prove successful.
